Easy upgrade on LNER

I used Seatfrog for an LNER upgrade last week, London to York. The app was pretty easy to figure out, just put in my existing ticket details. I bid on a First Class upgrade and actually won it for way less than I expected. The whole thing felt smooth, no hiccups getting on the train with the new ticket. Would def use it again for a long trip.

Reliable for Avanti upgrades

Another solid experience with Seatfrog. I've used them maybe four or five times now for Avanti West Coast upgrades, mostly between Manchester and London. This time I got a weekend first class upgrade. It's always consistent, the bids are straightforward, and I've never had an issue with the digital ticket. It's just a reliable way to get a bit more comfort without paying full price. That's why I keep coming back.

Smooth process, good support

I used Seatfrog to bid on a TransPennine Express upgrade for a trip last month. The app was fairly intuitive for placing my bid, and I won the First Class upgrade without any fuss. The digital rail ticket was easy to access and show to the conductor. I had a quick question about changing my seat after winning, so I used their in-app support chat, and they responded pretty fast and sorted it out. Quality of the upgrade was as expected, much more comfortable than standard. Overall, a good experience from start to finish, and I'd recommend it if you're looking to upgrade your journey.

My mate gave me a referral code for 5 quid off. Can I also use my railcard discount on top of that for an upgrade?

B Brittany Lewis 1 week ago
I don't think you can stack them. From what I remember, it's one or the other. The referral code usually applies to the upgrade itself.

Nah, pretty sure their system only lets you use one discount at a time. The railcard discount would probably apply to your original standard ticket, but not the upgrade price through Seatfrog.

Hey, I'm looking at upgrading my train ticket for a trip next month. Does Seatfrog work with all train lines or just certain ones?

S Stephanie Walker 1 week ago
Nah, not all of them. I've used it for LNER and Avanti before. Pretty sure it covers the big ones like GWR and TransPennine too.

They have a list on their site, but it's mainly the major UK operators like LNER, Avanti, GWR, CrossCountry, etc. No Eurostar, if that's what you were thinking.

Quick question about those referral codes, how do I actually use one? Is there a special spot in the app?

W William Lopez 1 month ago
Yeah, you put it in during checkout or when you're making your bid for an upgrade. It's in the app.

When you're going through the upgrade process in the app, before you confirm, there'll be an option for a promo or referral code. That's where you pop it in.

What happens if my train gets cancelled after I've already won an upgrade through Seatfrog? Do I just lose the money?

I Ian 1 month ago
I had that happen once, they usually sort you out. You get refunded for the upgrade if the train is cancelled or severely delayed and you can't use it.

L Linda Wright 1 month ago
You don't just lose it. If your original train is cancelled and you can't travel, you'll typically get your upgrade cost back. They're pretty good about that.

I'm looking to upgrade my LNER ticket from London to Edinburgh for Christmas. When do the auctions for those upgrades usually open up?

A Amber Jackson 2 weeks ago
They typically open pretty close to the travel date, like 24-48 hours before. For peak times like Christmas, might be even closer.

B Ben 2 weeks ago
Usually, auctions start the day before, sometimes even the morning of travel. For popular routes and dates like Christmas, they can fill up fast so keep an eye on the app.
